Main composition: Aluminum with ~5% magnesium (Mg)
Use: Welding of 5xxx (Al-Mg) and 6xxx series aluminum alloys, when good mechanical strength and corrosion resistance are required
Advantages:
Excellent mechanical strength
Very good corrosion resistance, especially in marine environments
Good weld bead appearance
Limitations:
Lower fluidity than silicon-based alloys (such as ER4043/4047)
Increased risk of cracking on certain 6xxx series alloys sensitive to magnesium
Not recommended for service temperatures> 65 °C (susceptibility to stress corrosion cracking)
